Chris started the winery as a negociant, purchasing high quality grapes and pioneering one of California's most traditional and category defining blends: Old Vine Red. With Chris' son Scot owning, managing, and making wine for the winery, Marietta Cellars' second generation is taking it to new heights. In 2007, Scot joined the winery full-time after graduating from UC Davis with a degree in Viticulture and Enology. He assumed the role of winemaker in 2012.
Even for a winery of this size, everything starts in the vineyard with a dedication to organic viticulture. With the family's experience with old vines through the region, including some of California's oldest Syrah vines, the result has been a string of critical successes never before seen in the winery's history.
