Lockwood’s journey took him from a guitar repair shop to a relatively remote vineyard in eastern Napa before he landed with Ehren Jordan at the venerable Failla Wines. It was through his work there, managing crucial vineyard relationships throughout Northern California, that he decided to start Enfield Wine Co. as a small side project. By 2013, he was ready to commit full-time to the brand and we’re all luckier for it. His wines are consistently praised by critics, sommeliers, and enthusiasts alike for being incredibly fresh yet not lacking any seriousness whatsoever. In the end, Enfield showcases wines capable of drinking today, tomorrow, and for many years to come.
John always seeks out vineyards that have a particular nuance to them, be it their unique geography, topography, or micro-climate. He works with small growers who farm to his standards and produce stunningly terroir-specific grapes. The Heron Lake Vineyard is where his career started and where he has recently taken over much of the farming for the entire site. This is where his award-winning Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs often come from.
